Have you ever driven one before? In my Opinion they drive like crap, I know BMW is supposed to feel rough for that sports car feel. But almost NO sportscars ride like that anymore. The X3 is even worse. The Lexus and Caddy are way nicer.

Lol
Remember don't ask other man for his opinion about the car! Go to the dealer and try it.
I'm doing electric/electronic in my friends body shop as a part time and I'm driving many different cars.
My opinion? If you like big awd cars try Lexus, if BMW x5 has to be 4.8 fully loaded and if somebody saying is crap probably was only driving this car as a passenger or in the trunk. New x5m is also nice car and take a look on BMW gran turismo even 7 series don't have that beautiful interior like this car. Mercedes ML s63 amg I like this car and is worth money, stay away from Audi other way the audi dealership gonna be your second home.
I like smaller cars and driving 325xit touring but planning to upgrade to 535xit xdrive next year. And I'm never asking friends what I should buy, BMW is my way and don't care what people saying. Car is for you not you for your car.

Gl with your new baby.

Regards,
mark

Im a tech at BMW of Manhattan. I have to say I agree with midtownman. Im a Honda guy, but bmw pays the bills. The X5 is an ok vehicle but falls way short of what youd expect for the price tag. As far as power goes 4.8 or better will definately leave the acura behind,(not that Ive done it :shhh:). But who really needs that much power/fuel economy this day & age. Ive never actually driven an MDX but like someone said earlier your best bet is to test drive one & decide for your self. My opinion is probably biased anyway. Cant help with the deal though, I cant even get one...

P.S BMW has free maintenance 5yrs.50,000 miles with options to extend at later dates.

The lincoln MKX is even nicer. There are so many nicer options out there than that. People don't realize that BMW is not the car it use to be. I had a 525 a few years back and hated the thing. It was slow for a "DRIVERS" car and the X5 is based of the same frame and engine. Not to familiar with the 4.8 though.

You are absolutely right, i hate 525 either... Till 05 it was really 2.5 liters engine in pretty big body, 05 and up 525 has 3.0 liters which is abit better but the 535 with 3.0 liters twin turbo engine is enough for family car. Anytime you like you can upgrade electronic and enjoy over 400hp.
I can be wrong but as I remember X5's had always littlebit stronger engines than 5 series sedans.
Now IMO diesel is best choice if we talking about economy/power.

maintenance is the reason why I want to lease instead of buying. in case if there are any problems, at lease I am covered. I heard about how expensive it is to get oil change and brake changes, brakes need to be replaced in 2 years and cost about $2K. I test drove the car, what I like about it is the excellent handling and the technology package, which includes rear and side view cameras, so it provides the top view of the car, that is very cool. and at the end, it is a bimmer, haha..
unfortunately, it is very pricy, with $0 down, the monthly payment is over $700.

I agree w/ Jaa again the lincolns are SICK. There definitely is A LOT of better options out there especially for that money. 700 a month is insane my cousin was paying something like that when he had his Acura RL and that's def more expensive than a x5. No offense but 0 down and you are going for a bmw? Maybe you should check out a Hyundai or something man they are actually making them really friggin nice. MY cousin just got one I think it was the genesis. Don't get deep into a hole if ya don't need to. Just lookin out. GL man let us know what you decide.

I did the calculation, it ended up paying about the same after 3 years if I put some money down. the one I wanted cost about $59k with all the options.
