what are your opinions when it comes to rock. getting ready to order my rock and not sure what to get. i always used live fiji and other rocks. now i been reading about the dry eco rock,. the eco rock says it cures just like regular live rock. and don't have any phosphates or unwanted critters and other pests we all grew to hate. ..

also i'm not going to use live sand in the my reef. i bought 50lbs of esv fine substrate ..

dry rock has it's advantages, you get more for the $, it's pest free, and it's not ripped out of the live reefs. I've purchased lots of live rock from Figi, Lalo, Tonga, and the Caribbean, and only two nice pieces are in my display right now, while the rest were banished to my sump for not being nice enough. Along with the two pieces in the display, i have marco rock that i feel is the best shaped rock i've purchased.

I vote eco rock.

A good tip with eco roc is to make sure you fully cure it before letting it get any light. since the rock is not live, people think they can drop it right in the reef. this can cause the rock to become covered in algea. The idea is that the rock become bio active before light is introduced. then when any dirt drops on the rock it is likely to be used up by the life in the rock. this will lessen the chance for algea to grow and take over.

you are also gonna want to get a cup of ls and a small piece of LR from a trusted friend /reefer to help seed your tank. the reason I say trusted is that you want someone with a good clean healthy tank. so that no problem is ever introduced.

Go with BRS Eco or Pukani dry rock. Seed it with some live rock from a fellow reefer. Less expensive, no pests and best of all you can aquascape it with out it being in the water!

marco rock and BRS are the same rock. However I would stay far away from marcorocks, he is not trustworthy with your money!

I bought my ro/di and eco rock from BRS. My order came in fine. I'm very happy w/ the quality. I didn't cure it. i added it to the tank I let it sit for about 2 months with just a clown. Here's a pic.
