My brothers clam spawned yesterday, its only a 60 gallon and its a pretty big clam so he was worried that it would crash his tank, it cleared up by the next morning though. It was the first time his clam spawned and at around the same time his snails started spawning too so he thought that he accidently put something in the water that caused it, maybe something from his hands.

I did just do a waterchange.

The only other thing I can think it woud be, is I added a new clam. If both my old ones are females, and the new one is a male, would that set off a spawn?

anyone know what the moon is doing these days?

Nothing special..last full moon was April 20th and we just passed the Last Quarter 4/28.
Oddly enough I had my bristleworms spawn out of their usual sequence on Saturday morning and that was when I was blowing detritus from behind the rocks.
Brett might be onto something between his waterchange and the addition of a clam that might be of a different sex. I know the water changes spark my bristles..

Looking forward to the pics...nothing like a happy clam :)

after reading through this paper on rearing clams I realized I stressed it in the morning, and it spawned in late afternoon. I took the clams out and really scrubbed the algea off them. Valonia, bryopsis, ect. then I dunked them back in the tank.

Here's one pic

There was a guy back in Boston working in a LFS that could get clams to spawn whenever he put his hands in the tank. He was taking seritonin suppliments though. So he thought that may have made the clams spawn.

My nassarius just laid their eggs last night.

Nice pic B. I would just think the spawning event would mean a smorgasboard for the rest of the inhabitants. Is that incorrect? When my clowns spawn and hatch every 11 days, the fish, shrimp and coral go nuts for them.

The pic still shows some stuff growing on the shell. You didn't do a very good job of scrubbing the algae off them :lol2: but cool pic
