Recently I got tired of my tank and was going to sell it, then decided to keep it and am back into doing regular maintenance with the exception of water changes.

I havent done a water change in almost 6 months. however, I do dose additives based on needs after running full spec of test.

My tank is the healthiest it's been since i put it up (tank is now running since april) I have a couple SPS's but mostly LPS dominated tank. My corals are growing and I have 9 fish and they are very happy.

I see people here who do water changes once a week and post about people stressing about how important they are. I havent done one in months.

My question is, why are water changes important if your levels are good, your corals are growing and your fish are happy.

Side note, i will be doing a water change (30% over the weekend) and dont plan on doing the next till may

There's plenty of products ( aqua Bella ) that guarantee no water changes for 1 year. The stuff ur adding is prob similar to that product.

My nitrates never drop below 20 and I do 20% weekly WC. Plus u have natural nitrate export with the DSB and MUD so no surprise there.

You probably feed your fish very little or none at all. Water change is important to replenish trace elements and to lower nitrates etc. No one told you, you must do regular water changes. Fish and some sps can tolorate high nitrates especially monti caps. We're still waiting for pics...

Hey dba you mentioned doing a water change this weekend. Why? It seems you have a renewed interest in the tank again. Just pay attention to it and see how things go without doing a water change.

When i was younger my systems always did amazing when i lost interest and totally neglected them. Crazy things happened. Growth like ive never seen. Maybe your on to something.

I think the saying goes, "If it ain't broke, dont fix it".
