I just installed two of the big ones on a clients reef just above the waterline due to space constraints. After the first priming they run fine on startup and are silent. You should always use teflon tape on any threaded parts, it prevents having to do the same work twice.

So Teflon tape worked but i still have a drip issue on the PVC connection

I apologize i don't know the part name but basically the black parts that have the gasket inside that attach to the inlet/outlet of the pump are glued to PVC. Where they attach appear to be leaking somehow, not really sure but that's what it feels like to the touch.

I sent reeflo an email to purchase two new parts, but was wondering if i could use a threaded piece union as the same thing? So union (half of it anyway) threaded onto inlet and then use/connect as normal?

You need to be really careful when you mix parts from different manufacturers because the threads and diameters can be incompatible. Pickup any two unions from different companies and odds are they will be visibly different.

Is the leak coming from the threads or the actual connection between the PVC and the black coupler of the pump?

Post a pic if you can.

thanks LFS, the leak appears to be from the pvc piping that goes into the black part which connects to the pump. i drained the sump yet again last night, figured id let the connections to and from pump dry out while im at work and go after it again. my thought is as simple as putting more pvc glue around outisde, silicone around joint, or suck it up and order new parts from reeflo. i sent them an email last night and will wait to hear back from them. i will order them either way just to have at this point as the pump is very quiet, but giving me fits at this point
