For those of you who thought you have seen and heard it all, go to e-bay and check this one out.

A rock with about 5 bleached ricordea!!

Get your bids in fast, they are rare!!

Also check out the rare caulerpa for auction.

The fact that these items have bids is proof that P.T. Barnum was right there is a sucker born every minute.

Hope you laugh as loud as I did.

OH gosh does this guy have anything to do with Steve tyree? (for those of you who get his weekly updates) Lets keep a rock of mushrooms out of light for a couple of weeks and then call it rare! Tyree does the same crap, EVERYTHING is either rare or EXOTIC. just my thoughts! Anyone else notice this about him? Did you also look at the
" Sellers other auctions" take a look you'll get a couple more laughs!

This guy needs to be reported. Beside the "rare" ricordea, he has about 15 auctions going for various low quality corals. If anybody didnt know, it is not legal to sell coral on Ebay anyway. Lets get together and get this guy off the auction. Follow this link to report him, make sure to include the item number for the ricordea auction 1256401103 plus any of the others you find disturbing. Here is the reporting link:

The ricordia may not be bleached. I have several yellow ones that would look similiar to that if I took a crappy picture. Maybe they are the yellows.......or maybe I'm giving this guy too much benefit of the doubt.

I see that he also ships internationally. Kinda funny since it's almost impossible tho ship live corals to various countries without CITES permits.

I suspect the reason there is bids is because he or a friend is bidding to drive the price up artificially.

Before you guys start flaming the guy, you may want to know that there *are* white morphs of Ricordea sp. shrooms. They're rare, but there is most definitely a white color morph. A friend of mine has had a white Ricordea in his 125 for the last year and it has not changed colors at all. Stayed perfectly white and it's off to the side of a 250 watt halide. If that halide didn't color it back up then there most definitely is a white morph. If I remember right, it's split once or twice now producing an exact white copy of itself.

Heh, just because something is white doesn't necessarily mean that it's bleached...

What are you guys talking about??? This guy is selling a rock COVERED with flower pot polyps! And you can't get recession like that just anywhere! Check out the bottom of the "rock", its receeding already! Wow! I wonder how that magical man gets those saltwater plant things to grow all over that rock!?

I reported that a$$, they better shut him down before the auction ends.

I have a great idea. We should all register fake ebay accounts and drive up his auctions. Then he would be stuck with his rare corals.

-of course I would never recommend actually doing this....lol

I sent the following to ebay:

quote:
This guy (sindacate) has an entire ebay store of live corals, which are prohibited live animals.

He claims to ship internationally - it is illegal to ship live corals outside the country without a CITES permit (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species).

In addition, most of the items are misrepresented:

Item number 1256401103 is listed as RARE ALBINO RICORDEA. In fact when a coral turns white is it called "bleaching", it means the coral has expelled its symbiotic photosynthetic algae - it means the coral is dying, not rare.

Item number 1255484611 is listed as a rock covered with "Flower Pot Polyps". In fact, this coral, correctly called a Goniopora, is a single coral with its own skeleton, not a collection of polyps on a rock. The "rock" he it talking about is actually the exposed skeleton of receding and dying coral.

Probably nothing, although I would make sure it's not Caulerpa prolifera...

There is no prohibition against selling plants or algae on ebay. The full details are at: Prohibited, Questionable & Infringing Items.

But, in short, here's what it says about live animals:

Just heard back from ebay. This is news to me. Guess we need to start bidding up this guys auctions.

quote:
I have reviewed the information that you have sent in regarding apossible violation of our Animal andWildlife Guidelines. At this pointI do not have enough evidence to show that the member has violated any eBay rules.

Coral is an exception to eBay's live animal policy. This item is permitted for listing on eBay. Therefore, no action will be taken at
this time.

A second email I received had to do with me questioning the quality of livestock being offered for sale.

quote:
Unfortunately, we are unable to make a judgement on the quality of
merchandise since we cannot possess and examine the items being sold. And currently, we are not removing auctions for corals. Therefore, no action will be taken at this time.

If he's selling crappy corals, however, then his member ratings sure don't show it. He's got 13 "Praise" entries and no complaints at all...

Read the description of the Goniopora he has for sale - "Flower pot polyps covering a rock"! Clearly his market is newbies that don't know any better. Then when the coral dies they think they did something wrong.

Those that know enough to complain probably wouldn't buy from him in the first place.
